Birmingham,Alabama.  Weather is finally turning much nicer…but don’t get used to it.

Jerry Tracey

First part of this forecast is actually quite simple.  The clouds are finally breaking up across central Alabama, and this trend will continue tonight.  After reaching the low 60’s, temperatures will fall to near 40 during the overnight period.  Friday will be delightful with mostly sunny skies and a fast rise in temperatures.  Highs will range from 69 to 74 across the area, and winds will be light.  Dewpoints will stay low, which means it will still feel a little cool in the shade.  But no matter how you slice it, it will easily rank as the best this week will offer.  Now Saturday during the day will be okay.  I don’t expect any rain, and temperatures will again be nice with highs between 70 and 75.  But there will be an increase in clouds, and that will serve as a teaser as to what will follow later on in the weekend. A powerful storm will form along a cold front to our west Saturday, and the entire system will plow through Alabama Sunday morning.  That will most certainly mean showers and thunderstorms. Now this system will be loaded with energy, and it is the most volatile time of the year here.  So we come to the question of severe weather.  It really all depends on how much low level moisture and hence instability enters the picture.  If it does get really unstable, then I could see a significant outbreak of severe weather, including tornadoes. So stay tuned.  We will keep an eye on moisture and instability trends and refine the forecast accordingly.  Behind the action Sunday will come another shot of chilly air and temperatures on Monday will be no higher than the middle 50’s.
