Birmingham,Alabama.  Brief spell of much colder air settling in.  Snow showers may follow.

Jerry Tracey

The strong cold front arrived on schedule today accompanied by those heavy showers and even a few isolated thunderstorms.  The storms became a little stronger over east Alabama where some wind gusts to 45-50 mph were observed.  All that rain is gone from the state now.  For tonight and tomorrow we will watch a powerful storm in the upper atmosphere track eastward across the deep south.  Area radars show there is not much precipitation west of here through central Mississippi, and then it pick up again west of I-55, and through Arkansas.  The precipitation seems to be about 60% rain and 40% snow.  As the upper low continues eastward that precipitation shield will also move on through and we will see some light stuff between about 3 or 4 am and about noon on Monday.  The upper air is plenty cold enough for snow, but the low-levels will be marginal.  I think most of us will see some snow showers, especially in the periof from 4 am till about 9 am.  Most places will have no accumulation, though grassy areas and car tops may turn briefly white in some places.  Anything that falls Monday afternoon will be little and spotty rain. Skies will clear out Tuesday, and the middle of next week looks great with sunshine and high temperatures in the 70’s.
