Spring Showers Approaching-May Bring Gusty Winds

Kweilyn Murphy

Our first spring showers of 2010 are just west of I-40, as we approach the 5pm hour. These showers will move into eastern North Carolina by the late evening hours tonight. Areas along the coast will see the first of the showers, including the cities of Wilmington and Jacksonville. Most of the region will begin to see showers after midnight. These showers will persist through the morning hours on Monday, with the entire region drying out by the evening hours on Monday. We maintain the possibility of a few rumbles of thunder associated with this system. Less than 0.10” of rainfall is expected.

With areas of strong upper-level forcing moving into the region, strong wind gusts will be possible with this event, mainly with the areas that experience thunderstorms.  In most cases, winds will be out of the south between 10 and 15 mph.

Our next chance for rain moves in late Monday night into early Tuesday morning, ahead of the next system.  This rain looks to hug mainly the coastal regions; but I’ll maintain a chance for scattered showers for the viewing area through Tuesday afternoon, with mostly sunny skies to follow.

High pressure will move back in on Tuesday night and into Wednesday, allowing for dry weather through Thursday.

Sunday’s Low: 56, Monday’s High: 66, Monday’s Low: 42
